My Style & Critic
Off to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child today, so the outfit is heavy on the Hufflepuff.
I'm also retaking Critic Badge as well, so here is a review of the above play:
This play is so good. I mean, I knew it would be, but it was interesting to compare it to Broadway. It’s a smaller stage. Notable differences were Hagrid, and a few flashback moments with young Harry and the Dursleys. More talking sections, which might have been too much for younger children, so you see why they had to be cut for Broadway.
The first play ended with arrival of the Dementors. Beth convinced there was someone in the Dementor that flies across the auditorium. It didn’t get as close here, but that will be due to the different theatre sizes.
We noticed that the UV writing is visible if you know what you are looking for! In the first interval I realised that there was merchandise missing… but it turns out they change the merchandise displays at the end of the first play! So, you leave to all the Dark Mark merch! Very clever.
The Palace haven’t changed the foyers at all. No recarpeting or anything Potter-related. It does have marble staircases, so maybe that was considered enough, but the immersion is lacking. I did buy the Dark Mark t-shirt and changed into it.
In general, I think I prefer the Broadway version. A longer play, but just the one. The pace is, obviously, faster and that keeps the drama up all the time. The Time Turning sections didn’t feel (literally) as good. The sound on Broadway really thumped the chest. If it became a shorter show in London I would definitely go back, and buy a better seat…
