September Badge Work
Keeping myself on track, here is a list of what I need to work on during September.
ACTIVIST
Clause 7 - study one example of how art was used to communicate a message and create cultural change. Make a scrapbook or similar about your findings. I'm not certain where to start with this, especially as making a scrapbook seems rather excessive. Perhaps I'll make a blog post about it instead, that will save paper and printer ink!
CONSCIOUS CONSUMER
Clause 1 - Actively aim to buy as little as possible. September is the last month for this Clause and I am expecting it to be easier once the children are back at school and ice creams are no longer an essential sanity-saving purchase. (Overlap with Money Saver)
Clause 2 - Buy only second hand clothes. This is month three of six. I've done alright so far with two hand-me-down long sleeved tops ready for the autumn and a long skirt from Mind that I can wear in the autumn.
Clause 5 - Learn to fix items that you would otherwise throw away. Last month for this, but nothing has broken so far that it would be possible to mend. Smashed Pyrex is not fixable! I will be counting this Clause as complete if there's nothing fixable by the end of the month. Just means we've all been careful with our possessions. (Overlap with Money Saver and Environmentalist)
Clause 6 - Make at least five handmade gifts for friends and family. I'm going to try and craft some items for Christmas. Even if it's just candles and needle-felted baubles.
FUNDRAISER
Clause 4 - Collect and donate food for a local food bank. This slipped my mind in August, so I'll be doing this September, October, November. Also overlaps nicely with the September Food Bank Challenge Badge.
Clause 6 - Spring clean and donate clothes and bric-a-brac to charity shops. I'm going to give the house another good Marie Kondo-ing once the kids are back at school.
ADULTING
Defrost the freezer. Ugh. Fine.
Spring Clean - donate unwanted items to charity shops. As above for Fundraiser, but also I've already promised my Buffy and Angel action figures and play sets to a couple of new Buffy fans. I'm happier doing that than giving them to charity.
Dust skirting boards, curtain rails, tops of mirrors and ceiling corners. OK. Fine. I suppose so.
MONEY SAVER
Clause 1 - Actively aim to buy as little as possible. (Overlap with Conscious Consumer)
Clause 5 - Learn to fix items that you would otherwise throw away. (Overlap with Conscious Consumer and Environmentalist)
Clause 6 - Educate yourself about stocks, shares, crypto currency and current trends in exchange rates. I have started doing this. Just need to read up on exchange rates and I can tick this one off.
CRITIC
Clause 1 - An Exhibition. Visiting the Harry Potter Photographic Exhibition tomorrow. I can't count any more exhibitions towards this badge.
BUILDER
I understand that this badge will be a bit more detailed when the next book comes out. Hours will need to be spent on each Clause to qualify. Well, I am not going to be spending hours building a massive flower arrangement when it takes me hours to perfect the small details in my Lego town, Loftingham. So I need to get these Clauses ticked off!
Clause 1 - A Building or Landmark. I have many buildings in Loftingham, some Lego sets and some I've made myself.
Clause 4 - A Flower Arrangement. I will be using Flossie's Flower Stall for this Clause. Although on of the Loftingham residents does have a very nice garden.
Clause 6 - A Household Object. I won't be buying the Lego typewriter just to tick this off! I have many little brick-built household objects throughout my town.
Clause 8 - A Vehicle. Again, I won't be buying the Porsche, but I have a lot of vehicles in Loftingham.
GOOD HABITS
Life Admin Habit / Health & Fitness Habit / Household Chores Habit / Self Care Habit
I am starting this Badge in September as I felt that back to school time was a reasonable starting point rather than putting it off until the New Year. I might not Blog about it as some of the things are personal, but I believe I've chosen four things that I need to do that will actually make me feel better and more organised.
The other Clause is to "read or listen to a book about habit-making to help with your goal". I will use my next Audible credit to listen to the suggested book 'The Power of Habit'.
