November Badge Work Update

WRITER - four months done and into my fifth.

CONSCIOUS CONSUMER - 

Clause 2 - just this final month left to only buy myself second-hand clothes.  This one works well because I really do NOT like shopping for clothes anyway.

Clause 6 - I have made more cross-stitch items for presents, so this clause is now complete.

BAKER - I'm using this for the Quarterly Challenge, but I don't think I'll be able to complete it by the end of the year.  I'll roll it over into 2023 and see if I can complete it.

  1. Corn bread done.  One more bread needed.
  2. No further progress on cakes.
  3. No further progress on biscuits.
  4. Still no photo of the crumbles!
  5. Savoury pie has become a sweet pie.  A much better swap as the family were very pleased with blueberry and apple pie. 😋
  6. No progress made on eclairs, and I'm not sure there will be at this rate.
  7. Pumpkin pie has been made as it is indeed a "sweet tart".  The pastry was surprisingly successful.
  8. Batch bake done.
  9. No further progress on millefeuille.  Ditto eclairs.

MY COLLECTION - I figured this one out!  My collection is not my books, although they are obviously a collection, it's my Lego! It is always in an attractive layout, and I show it off to anyone who walks through the door.  Most recently to Nicola, who did seem impressed. So, this is DONE.  (I'm using this for the Quarterly Challenge)

SELF-CARE - I'm using this for the Quarterly Challenge. November done and carrying on into December. Clause 5 is the one that causes the most trouble as relying on screens seems to fluctuate day-to-day.  I have managed to stop checking on the Rebel page every day, which is (annoyingly!) very distracting from actually achieving badges.  Doing more crafting.

STARGAZING - I'm using this for the Quarterly Challenge. 

  • Logbook - it's not brilliant because the weather has been dreadful, but I'm continuing with it and blogging it as I go.
  • Solar System - still have to do this.
  • The Stars - DONE.
  • History - DONE.
  • Compass Directions - to do.

REBEL 1ST BIRTHDAY QUARTERLY CHALLENGE

Creative - Critic. DONE.

Global - Conscious Consumer. Will complete at the end of December.

Grown Up - Baker. Not convinced I'll complete this. 😢

Self Aware - My Collection.  DONE.

Wellness - Self Care. Will complete at the end of December.

Wild - Stargazer. Making good progress.

'Making a birthday cake and eating a slice' will be next month. 😀

I decided to find out how to sing Happy Birthday in Klingon (DONE) and I haven't made a Rebel Birthday card.  Bit on the fence with that one.  You're supposed to share the picture on the Facebook page, but how many are actually doing that?!  Not sure I really want to put myself out there on the group.

NOVEMBER MONTHLY CHALLENGE - I did write every day.  Maybe not on here, but I adapted my diary to have full daily entries rather than a whole week on a double spread. quite enjoyed doing it that way for once, but not something I'd want to keep up with.

Craft Badge - Felting

 The next craft I tried was Felting.  In the book it just says "Felting", it doesn't specify whether this is needle felting, wet felting, making things from felt...  I already needle felt, and have wet-felted with various levels of success, so I decided that I would "make something from felt".  Hawthorn Handmade sell brooch kits under ' Felt Craft ' which is separate from 'Needle Felting' on their website.  I chose the hedgehog . It's so cute! The instructions are really clear, apart from how to create a French Knot.  So, I went online to figure out where I was going wrong.  Apparently, they're 'easy to do and impossible to teach' according to one beginner's site. I watched lots of YouTube videos and think I can now make a little one with one strand of embroidery floss. Finished product Not too bad for a first attempt.  I'm not sure I would wear it as a brooch, but I do now have some skills that I didn't have before.  ...

September Badge Work

 Keeping myself on track, here is a list of what I need to work on during September. ACTIVIST Clause 7 - study one example of how art was used to communicate a message and create cultural change. Make a scrapbook or similar about your findings . I'm not certain where to start with this, especially as making a scrapbook seems rather excessive.  Perhaps I'll make a blog post about it instead, that will save paper and printer ink! CONSCIOUS CONSUMER Clause 1 - Actively aim to buy as little as possible . September is the last month for this Clause and I am expecting it to be easier once the children are back at school and ice creams are no longer an essential sanity-saving purchase. (Overlap with Money Saver) Clause 2 - Buy only second hand clothes . This is month three of six.  I've done alright so far with two hand-me-down long sleeved tops ready for the autumn and a long skirt from Mind that I can wear in the autumn. A Chicken Crosses a Road...

30. A Chicken crossing a road 18. A piece of tech from the 2000s 24. Something naughty 7. The strangest item you can find in a charity shop 30. I wasn't going to take my chickens into the road, so my daughter and I drew roads onto the patio, complete with roundabout and bushes.  Apparently chickens don't really like crossing roads, so this was the best photo I took.  Thanks to Lavender for attempting to cooperate!  BokBok. 18. You are supposed to be using the piece of tech, but I don't think it even works. 24. We are looking after a fellow Rebels assorted creatures at the moment. This is the aptly-named Nibbles who took a bite of my daughter's finger. Naughty naughty. 7.  This is a large fluffy bouncy ball.  One of a pair in Wood Green Animal Sanctuary charity shop.
