Board Games
Clauses 1 through 3 are compulsory. Then choose five of the remaining Clauses.
Clause 1 - Learn about at least ten different categories of board game, and play at least one from each category.
I'm not sure that what Charley means by "category". What Wikipedia considers a board game category and what Board Game Geek consider to be a category are not necessarily the same thing. This first list uses Wikipedia categories.
- Abstract Strategy - Azul
- Cooperative - Forbidden Island
- Dexterity - Ice Cool
- German-style (or Euro) - Catan
- Guessing - Battleship
- Paper-and-Pencil - Patchwork Doodle
- Story-telling - Dixit
- Tile-based - Carcassonne
- Train - Ticket to Ride
- Two-player only - Patchwork
Looking at the Board Game Geek list of Categories, here is a second list of games.
- Animals - Wingspan
- Card - Sleeping Queens
- Children's - Rhino Hero Super Battle
- City Building - Everdell
- Dice - Dragonrealm
- Environmental - Mariposas
- Farming - Takenoko
- Party Games - Sushi Go Party
- Puzzle - Barenpark
- Video Game Theme - Minecraft: Builders & Biomes
I am going to print off these lists and get the kids busy playing them with me, rather than backdating them. That way each game gets played specially for this badge.
Clause 2 - Hold a games night with friends, family or your local Rebellion. I consider this DONE as I do this a lot.
Clause 4 - Play a Board Game created this year. This will be Wingspan: Asia when it arrives. Despite being an expansion, this game can be played as a standalone solo or duet, which I reckon counts as something created this year.
Clause 5 - Play a Board Game popular in the decade you were born. I had a Google and came across this site. Apparently I need to play Connect 4 and / or Guess Who?, both of which I still own!
Clause 7 - Visit a board game cafe and play at least three games you've never played before. Everdell, Kingdomino and Sushi Roll. DONE.
Clause 11 - Play a digital version of a board game. Played Takenoko, Stone Age and others. DONE.
Clause 12 - Attend a local gaming group. We had our own gaming group pre-Covid and will start up again in the new year. DONE.
