January Badge Work Update

I have stayed away from the Rebel Facebook page to reduce my screen time, but it means that I am engaging less with all things Rebel.  Not sure how to balance that, but here's an accountability update.

CREATIVE

  1. Craft
  2. Builder
  3. Critic
  4. Scrapbooker
  5. Writer - I will finish this on the 14th January when I will have been using this Blog for six months.  I don't think blogging is really for me, but I'll keep it updated with photos from my Rebel Journey.

This is Creative Rebel complete, and I could get the Section Patch.

GLOBAL

  1. Activist
  2. Animal Lover
  3. Community Service
  4. Environmentalist
  5. World Traveller
  6. Fundraiser

This is Global Rebel complete, and I could get the Section Patch.

Conscious Consumer - final part of this is now complete.  All the handmade gifts were appreciated and I steered clear of new clothes.  Apart from spending a Christmas voucher on new tops.

Advanced Community Service - I am calling this one done as this is what I spend my time doing anyway.

Historian - I am choosing to look into American History for this badge.  I need to write up a more detailed post about this, but I expect it'll end up being a notebook entry rather than a blog post.

GROWN UP

  1. Adulting
  2. Event Planner
  3. Money Saver

Board Games - I am working my way through Clause 1, playing the twenty games I have chosen. Clause 4 is complete now I have played Wingspan Asia that was released in 2022.  Clause 6 will be a giant Escape Room in a few weeks time.

So I am left with trying to come up with my own board game.  My daughter thinks a Beanie Boo theme would be good.  Perhaps card collection?

Detective - most of these clauses are researched based and just need to be looked up and written down.  I expect that I will do this in a notebook rather than a blog.  I am not sure I fancy learning about blood spatter analysis, so I will possibly skip that clause.  It's a bit of a grim choice!

Clause 4 is a scrapbook about your favourite detective.  I have chosen Kosuke Kindaichi and the scrapbooked pages are in my bullet journal.

Clause 5 - solve three cases.  I have used the Micro Macro Crime City games for this, and will be including the Escape Room that I play later this month.

Clause 7 - I chose to read detective fiction, rather than true crime podcasts.  No thanks.

I have written reviews in my journal.

Farmer - I am working my way through the clauses for this one.  I am counting the fruit and veg clauses done, as is the chicken keeping clause.  I will be attempting to grow chilli peppers from seed once we have our greenhouse ready to go.  Technically I recently baked some cornbread, but I will try other bread instead to make that clause count.

Foodie - this one is fairly easy, but there are many clauses here that include spending money that you would not usually be spending.  There's quite a few of those dotted throughout these Rebel Badge Books, which does make some of it rather tricky.

I need to find two more honeys to try for Clause 2.

Clause 3 is done as I have used three new ingredients in cooking, Trex, swedes & pak choi.  Although it went longer than a month, because some of the timescales aren't great either!  You aren't allowed to discuss badge modification on the Facebook group, so here is where I discuss my mods.

I'm counting Clause 6 as complete as it isn't my choice to eat GF and DF food, I just have to, so I may as well get something out if it.

The rest needs more thought.

Sommelier - I think this one is perfectly doable as long as I stick to the 'research' topics, rather than the ones that encourage you to spend money.  I will be saving this one until we get a quarterly badge that asks us to complete a Grown Up badge.;)

Baker - I have yet to finish this.  Making some of these things as a DF GF dish is really difficult.  I could make it 'normally', but the family won't eat these things and I'll end up with food waste, which just isn't happening.

This badge was one reason why I flunked the 1st Birthday Quarterly challenge.  Luckily I didn't pre-buy the badge.  Phew.

SELF-AWARE

  1. My Roots
  2. My Collection

I loathe most of these badges!  I actively dislike all thise self-empowering, branding, styling rubbish.  My Brand is "this is not for me".  There.  Done.

My Passion - luckily this has cropped up in book two.  This is a six-month badge where you regularly devote time to a hobby or pastime of your choice, then create a visual presentation.  I have chosen Lego and have set myself up with an Instagram account for my SigFig.  The badge will complete at the end of June.

If another challenge appears where you have to complete a badge from each section, then I guess I'm screwed!

WELLNESS

  1. Diarist
  2. Reader
  3. Self Care

Advanced Reader - six month personal reading challenge.  Mine is 50 books in six months, and will complete automatically at the end of June.

Advanced Self Care - I will be doing this when the weather gets warmer and I need to make myself hydrate.  Possibly also including walking (which is now a badge in its own right) and I need to think of another area.

Brain Games - I will start this over the Easter holidays by purchasing a Puzzle magazine for our trip.  Eight week timescale means this will run April and May 2023.

Walker - three month timescale.  Walk for exercise three times a week, building up the distance each month.  Probably more likely to complete in the Spring.

WILD

  1. Camper
  2. Codebreaker

Stargazer - still a work in progress

Advanced Camper 18 months to complete 10 nights under canvas.  I will start this at the first camp of the year and run it from then.  So possibly May 2023, which covers two summer holidays.

Nature Lover - no timescales in this one, and a few are research based. I am keeping this one open in case we need to complete a brown badge at some point this year.

Palaeontologist - I already display my fossils nicely, so that clause is complete.  There are many research based options and a couple of crafty ones.  So needlefelt dinosaur and dinosaur Cross stitch is a possibility.  Also work for the bullet journal.

Geocacher - will look into this as it might be doable.

January 2023 Challenge - Exercise Every Day.  I am not doing this.

First Quarter Challenge - Happy 2023.  Having to complete two Wellness and two Self Aware badges in the first quarter of the year does not link well with my badge plan for the year.  Besides, two Self Aware?! Ugh. Also having to track your own happiness and how you make others happy is just cringey, so I ahve made the rather obvious decision not to join in with this Quarters badge.

See, I AM self aware!
