The Book Two Badge Plan
If it doesn't appear here, then I'm not doing it!
One of the things I find a little annoying throughout the books,
though, is having to spend money on things in a certain time frame.
Only three months to complete five crafts seems a little unfair as there
is an outlay involved unless you share supplies with a friend or
already have them to hand. This crops up a few times and is why I am
not going to bother with Theatre Critic. Five plays in three months?! Different genres as well.
CREATIVE
BUILDER - DONE
CRAFT PART TWO - time frame of three months to complete five projects. I have an embroidery kit to do, so I'm glad that this now counts. I have abandoned decoupage, so this is a great reason to try to finish the project. Printing is now an option and I need to make those tea towels soon to complete the Conscious Consumer. Diamond Art and Latch Hook are the other two I can see myself trying.
FILM CRITIC - not entirely sure about this one, again because of the money involved with seeing films in movie theatres. This is five films in three months. I am seeing Wakanda Forever soon, which counts as the Action Movie Clause, and would trigger the three-month timer giving me until mid-February to see the rest.
I can use Disney+ to tick off Animation and I have some Gene Kelly / Fred Astaire films on DVD that I could watch for Musical. Boxsets that were a gift years ago and never watched! No idea at the moment what to do about the rest.
SCRAPBOOKER - I have spent years of my life scrapbooking and I honestly think I deserve a Badge for all the crap I got from UKScrappers. DONE.
TV CRITIC - I will do this one at some point. Not starting it this year, though.
GLOBAL
ADVANCED COMMUNITY SERVICE - DONE
HISTORIAN - I am going to choose American History for this one, may as well make my degree pay off! I'll have a read up and see what I can use, but I am thinking Civil War / Declaration of Independence / early President and work it round seeing things in Philadelphia next year.
GROWN UP
ADVANCED ADULTING - six household tasks carried out four times a month for six months. I haven't figured out which tasks to do, but I'll start this in the New Year.
BOARD GAMES - no time frames on this one. Clauses 1,2, & 3 are compulsory, then complete any five of the remaining nine.
Clause 2 - hold a games night DONE
Clause 4 - play a board game created this year. This will be Wingspan: Asia
Clause 7 - visit a board game cafe and play at least three games you've never played before. Everdell and Kingdomino were both first played at The Box Room
Clause 12 - attend a local gaming group DONE
DETECTIVE - all six Clauses need completing and there's no timescale. Clause 5 is about solving cases and I could use Macro Micro Crime City for that.
FARMER - complete five of ten Clauses
Clause 3 - harvest a crop of home-grown fruit DONE
Clause 4 harvest a crop of home-grown veg DONE - although I'd like to try patio potatoes this year
Clause 5 - look after chickens and collect their eggs DONE
Clause 7 - bake bread - I need to get this done for the Baker badge anyway.
FOODIE - complete eight of fourteen Clauses. Some Clauses have timescales, but overall, there are none. There is a certain amount of avoiding spending too much money here. Clause 4 works because I can do it on holiday, otherwise I would avoid this Clause.
2. Five new varieties of something you enjoy - honey?
3. Over a month cook with three new ingredients - Oddbox contents?
4. Eat out on three separate occasions & Trip Advisor them. USA where we'll have to eat out.
6. Variations of food designed for other dietary requirements!
7. Try at least three foods produced locally
9. Three variations on the same dish - biscuits to tie in with Baker?
11. Cook a meal out of things in your cupboards DONE as we do this a lot
14. Create a five-course taster menu - possibly doable
MIXOLOGIST - create at least six of the twelve options. I need to research them first and see what goes into each. Can they be non-alcoholic options?
SOMMELIER - six out of the nine options and no time frame. This can be completed without drinking and spending money, but only if you avoid the visit to a winery and taking part in a wine tasting.
SELF AWARE
I really dislike the majority of these badges!
MY COLLECTION - working on it. Need to get it finished by the end of the year for the Quarterly Challenge.
MY PASSION - will probably make this about Loftingham and create a scrapbook about the residents and buildings. There's a six-month timescale on this ending in a visual presentation.
MY PEOPLE - if a future Monthly Badge or Quarterly Challenge requires another pink badge then I guess it'll be this one as the best of a bad bunch.
WELLNESS
ADVANCED READER - starting in January and recording on Goodreads, a personal challenge of 50 books in six months will take care of itself
ADVANCED SELF-CARE - probably May, June & July for the three months so I can be better at hydration and also walking for pleasure. I just need one more thing that would count as Self Care.
BRAIN GAMES - for an eight-week period spend two hours each week completing different brain games, two of which are new to you. Play one game with someone else. Thinking I can take a puzzle magazine to America.
WALKER - three-month timescale for this. Setting a target and then increasing it each month. There's a tracker in the book. I might try and make this span a holiday.
WILD
ADVANCED CAMPER - over eighteen months spend ten nights under canvas. I will start this on the first camp of 2023 and then have a year and a half to clock up ten nights. This badge should take care of itself.
GEOCACHER - eight out of fourteen Clauses with no timeframe. I'm planning to do all the learning and researching Clauses first to see if this will be worth doing or not. Even if it isn't I will still have learnt something about geocaching, so that's a win anyway.
NATURE LOVER - eight out of sixteen Clauses. Lots of these are also learning and researching. Also taking part in national surveys (like the butterfly count) which I do anyway.
OBSERVER - all of this is reasonably fine, apart from the last Clause that involves spending an hour sitting on a bench or at a coffee shop table watching the world go by. Urgh. There's no time frame on this, so perhaps I can sit with Emma in the park when the Spring arrives?
PALAEONTOLOGIST - six out of ten Clauses with no time frame. Learning, categorising, presentation, and display. Also crafting a dinosaur, so that'll be fun! Might even needlefelt one for a sculpture.
