Booking and attending this play has been counted towards the Carpe Diem Badge.  I've looked at posters for this Festival every year and wanted to go.  Attending online would still be a carpe diem too far, but luckily this time they were performing A Midsummer Night's Dream and my son is going to be studying it next year at School.

I am so glad we went.  I love The Dream anyway and it's such a good entry point to Shakespeare.  Adam had a wonderful time and is already talking about making it a group trip next year with a better picnic.  He would like to see The Tempest.

All the actors were brilliant, even more so as they took on multiple roles, see the cast list above.  The Lovers were also fairies.  The fact that these roles could be shared had not occurred to me before and it was incredibly well done.

Being outside was also a positive experience.  Not too hot and it even spotted with rain at one point (rather nice in this current droughty climate).  The Dream works perfectly when being performed outside and being able to look inside St. John's College Scholar's Garden was part of the treat.

We saw an Understudy performing the role of Hippolyta / Titania and I sadly didn't catch her name.  She was word perfect, and I have no idea if she had been playing the roles for the whole run or just this one day.

My son said that he didn't mind all the kissing, and there was quite a lot, even between Bottom and Starveling.

I think I quite fancy a season ticket for next year, but am I brave enough to go alone?
